Preliminary exploration in the Siyahjangal area

The Siyahjangal-e Sarkehno exploration area is located near the tectonomagmatic active zone of southeast Iran, in which the Taftan active volcano is located. That caused a complicated geology for this zone. Sedimentary rocks such as sandstone and shale are cut by intrusive to sub-volcanic rocks, diorite, monzo-diorite in composition. According to general trends, structures trend toward NE and NW. due to sub-volcanic bodies and fault activity, hydrothermal circulation has caused alteration of igneous and their country rocks. The lithogeochemical study conducted in a 1.34 Km2 area. The area was divided into four zones and prioritized. The sampling grid cells were 50*50 and 20*20 m by priority. For more precision of sampling, we used a ground baseline. 669 samples were taken. For assessment of anomalies, trenched were excavated and samples selectively. The result confirmed gold mineralization with As, Pb, Sb and Ag parageneses. Gold anomalies are aligned with NE-SW faults. Sampling from old workings in the northwest confirms the idea.
The assessment of current erosional surface relative to the PHI shows that the erosional surface is high and therefore the available anomalies are important. The comparison of host rock, alteration, tectonic setting, structural control, and geochemistry of the area with mineral deposit models stated a correlation with epithermal gold deposit related to felsic intrusive rocks. Compilation and conclusion of this study is a promising mineralized zone especially in the northeast area that is highly recommended for further investigations.
