An investigation about the Antimony, its genesis and mineralogy
Among various mineral commodities, antimony is a strategic metal that its consumption will be increased parallel with industrial growth and development. However its resources are rare in the case which the deposits with reserves more than 100000 tons, are considered as giant antimony deposits. Antimony products are used in paint, alloys, pharmaceutical, glass-making, rubber and military industries.
China, South Africa, Soviet Union, Mexico, and Peru have great resources and production of Antimony. Turkey, Australia, USA, and Spain also have considerable production. Iran is an importer of antimony (1000 tons at 1984, 2-3% of world annual production). USA consumes about 20% of world antimony production. Total antimony production ranges between 25000 to 50000 tons per year. Currently, the main antimony resources are epithermal and massive sulfide in type. The antimony resources of chine are mainly epithermal, but the resources of eastern Alp in Turkey, Consolidated Murchison and Tberia are massive sulfide in type. Indications of antimony in Iran in discussed in this report. New potentials are also introduced, especially from the Khorasan Province. Four zones are introduced in the Kashamr Quadrangle. The first zone is located along an E-trending fault at north of Daghi village which shows epithermal characteristics. Two indications are located at north and south of Bardeskan city in the Nyband Formation. The fourth zone is located in the east of Shurab Hg deposit. The Bardeskan mineralized zone is a new favorable area for antimony resources that may supply the required antimony of domestic industries in the future.
