Mineral prospection in the Darreh-Shahr, Abdanan
The study area is a 600 Km2 wide domain of Ilam Province including Darreh-Shahr and Abdanan counties. This area lacks the potential of magmatic deposits. Exposed rocks are just marine and coastal to little continental sedimentary rocks. They range form Cretaceous to Holocene in age.
So far adequate attention was not paid to the identified resources in the area. For example, until recent years, most of required gypsum of the province was supplied from other provinces. Feasibility study of these resources should be considered. These resources include gypsum, cement raw materials and limestone. Also there are bitumen resources in the province. This material can b used for production of coke needles that is used in steel industry. Halite is another mineral potential of province that is used in petrochemistry industry. In the prospection done through this project, at whole, six bitumen indications in Telur, Gurab, Kase Mast, and Qadah areas, a clay indication in the southeast of Darrehshahr, and six halite indications were identified. In addition, sulfur springs, gypsum, phosphate, dolomite, limestone and celestite are other identified resources that described in the report.
