Hajat asbestos mine
The Hajat asbestos mine is located 50 km away from east of Nehbandan and 150 Km far from SE of Birjand. There was no scientific report of the area until 1980. At 1980, the experts of GSI made a short visit from the deposit under the request of former Ministry of Mines and Metals. They produced two reports for the area. At 1982, the Fars and Khuzestan Co. a subsidiary of National Industries Co. started to prepare the topography and geology maps of the area on the scale 1:1000 for 3 Km2 area.
The area consists of ophiolitic rocks including asbestos-bearing harzburgite. The area has good potential for asbestos. Several zones in the area have up to 50 m thick harzburgite rocks that contain the asbestos minerals. The deposit requires more consideration and can be among the first class asbestos mines of the world.
