Semi-detailed exploration of Murmuri sulfur deposit in Abdanan
First information of sulfur resources in the Ilam Province goes back to 1:100000 geological maps of NIOC. But the Murmuri sulfur deposit was known from ancient times and exploited is some periods.
First efforts to activate the mine carried out during Imposed War. The area was exploited by private sector without exploration activity and then abandoned. First report of sulfur formation in the Murmuri deposit associated with exaggeration that may caused some doubts about the deposit.
At 1994, sulfur exploration project across the province and also the Murmuri area started that led to identification of a considerable deposit with 4.3 million of tons 61% sulfur ore. Then, the private sector continued the exploration, but it canceled the operation because of low reserve. The Industries and Mines Organization of Ilam denied the low reserve and related that conclusion to insufficient exploration. The aim of this project is to complete the exploration at this level and obtain more detail information about the reserve of deposit.
In this project, 5.3 m trenches and 285 m boreholes were drilled to achieve required information. Considering the estimated reserve of eight blocks in the mine, the total estimated reserve of deposit is 400000 tons ore of 25.5% sulfur.
