Mineral prospection in Alkabad, Oshnaviyeh County
Volume 1: Geological survey
Geological survey in Alkabad region (100 Km2) in the Oshnaviyeh County, led to 1:20000 anomaly map of elements and heavy minerals plus to the present report. The project conducted based on a contract between the Industries and Mines Organization of Azarbaijan-e Gharbi and Tehran Padir Consulting Engineers Co. Geological survey in the area was conducted after photogeology. 25 samples were taken for lithology and 20 samples for mineralogy (XRD). Required geological cross section were prepared and presented. The oldest rock units include the late Precambrian metamorphic rocks in the southern area. A dioritic to granodioritic intrusive body exists in the area that has altered the adjacent rocks. A Cretaceous ophiolitic complex including ultrabasic to intermediate igneous and sedimentary rocks cover the main portion of the area. The contact of cretaceous ophiolite and older rocks is faulted. There are many minor fractures in the area. Main faults are nearly vertical. Hydrothermal fluids caused secondary mineralization in rock fractures and veins within ophiolitic body. Cretaceous tuff shows alteration with different colors. At whole, 20 alteration zones were studied. Clay minerals and talk are the main potentials of the area. The Randola granodiorite can be extracted as a decorative stone.
