Preliminary study of concentration of Qara-Aghaj titanium ore deposit
Ilmenite is black mineral (FeTiO2) with specific weight of 4.72 and hardness of 5-6. ilmenite is found as massive brittle mineral in the placers. It is used for production of TiO2 and titanium metal. Dominant consumption of TiO2 is in production of weight paint, welding electrode, and china covers. Consumption of titanium in space industries includes production of special alleys, when the alley should be strong against the corrosion and erosion.
In 1990, three million tons TiO2 and 96000 tons titanium metal were consumed. Main titanium producers include USA, Australia, India, Brazil, and former Soviet Union. The main type of ore deposit is the coastal sands. Ilmenite ores require post-extraction processing to produce a production of >45% TiO2. In the current project the feasibility study is conducted for concentration of Qara-Aghaj ilmenite ore deposit that has 10% TiO2. The aim of study is to produce the ore with 40% TiO2. This report presents the primary result of various ore-dressing methods for production of medium-grade ore mineral. Increasing the recovery, optimization of ore-dressing methods, and designation of flow sheet will be discussed in a separate report.
