Mineral prospection in Alkabad, Oshnaviyeh County
Second volume: Geochemical survey
Geological survey in Alkabad region (100 Km2) in the Oshnaviyeh County, led to 1:20000 anomaly map of elements and heavy minerals plus to the present report. The project conducted based on a contract between the Industries and Mines Organization of Azarbaijan-e Gharbi and Tehran Padir Consulting Engineers Co.
This report contains a summary of field work, sampling, statistical analysis and preparing geochemical maps. The sampling network was designed based on 1:55000 aerial photographs and 1:20000 topography maps. Samples were analyzed by spectrometry method.
As a result, several anomalies were identified that are ranked based on their priorities:
I- An area at north of the Cretaceous ophiolitic complex, that is 19 Km2 wide includes chromium, gold, arsenic, and nickel mineralization. This is suggested to be studied through geochemical survey with a network of 20 samples (sediment, rock or soil) per each a square kilometer.
II- In the middle of the region, in the Cretaceous ophiolitic complex, a 20 square kilometers wide zone is anomalous for chromium and nickel. It is suggested to be studied through geochemical sampling on the scale 1:5000.
III- Southern region with Precambrian intrusives and Cretaceous ophiolites is anomalous for Zr, Au and apatite. It is suggested for more geochemical and heavy mineral studies (5 samples and 20 heavy mineral samples per 1 Km2)
IV- An area an eastern portion of the Cretaceous ophiolites that is 4.2 Km2 contains anomalous quantities of copper. It is suggested to be studied in the scale 1:5000.
