Prospecting for mineral resources in the North Andimeshk and Sardasht

Industries and Minnes Organization of Khuzestan has conducted several projects across the province of which is the mineral prospection around the Andimeshk County and Sardasht of Dezful County. The area belongs to Zagros Fold Belt that includes gentle upright folds with NW-SE trend. Lithology of the area consists of limestone, dolomite, and marl. The high elevations of the area are made of limestones of the Khami and Bangestan groups, Asmari, Tale Zang and Shahbazan formations. Several kilometers of Mesozoic and Cenozoic deposits cover the Paleozoic platform.
The area contains several important mineral deposits. Three phosphate layers were found in the Pabdeh Formation. The contact of Asmari and Pabdeh formations and also in the Gachsaran Formation, there evidence of celestine mineralization. Other minerals such as nitrate, clay mineral, gypsum, halite and agglomerates are also present in the area.
