Preliminary mineral exploration in the north of Meshkinshahr
The study area is located at north of the Savalan mountain which has a high relief. Qarasu and Aharchay are two important rivers in the area. This region is located in the Western Alborz-Azarbaijan structural zone along the Qaradaq Mountains. There are two independent magmatic activities in this zone. 1- Alkali basalt of Eocene that resulted from a rifting in the Talesh-Moqan zone. 2- sub-alkali intrusive rocks of Oligo-Miocene related to orogenic movements.
Existing heavy minerals in the area were classified into four classes. Taken samples from streams near intrusive bodies contain sphalerite, molybdenite, chalcopyrite and gold fragments. The oldest rocks in the area are Eocene volcanic rocks such as latite, trachy-andesite, andesi-basalt, trachy-basalt. Oligocene intrusive rocks at south of the area have intruded in the Eocene rocks that caused metallic mineralization and alteration. Filed assessment and lab analyses, identified several zones for more exploration.
