Explorational studies in the Yarm Qieh mica deposit
After exploitation of Qarabagh mica mine that is located 65 Km away from north of Orumiyeh Lake, another mica indication was found by the Industries and Mines Organization of Azarbaijan-e Gharbi in the Yarm Qieh area of Khoy County. After visitation from the area, an exploration project was defined to do a study for determination of mineral potential of the area. This report presents the result of field study at 1986 (ten days).
The geology of Yarm Qieh is similar to the Qarabagh mica mine. Mica has occurred as relatively large phlogopite crystals in a light green altered pyroxenite rock. This E-trending unit belongs to the metamorphic rocks of Precambrian in the 1:250000 geological quadrangle of Khoy. Alkaline granites have intruded in the pyroxenite. The mica-bearing layer shows boudinage structure that is 2 Km long. Toward west the unit is cut by a fault. The mineral unit includes three large lenses and some small outcrops.
Two samples taken from excavated trenches in the area was used for pilot processing of mineral. The result of processing shows that due to small size of mica, segregation of mica from the host rock is difficult using simple processing methods and requires flotation. Since the flotation is an expensive procedure, and considering the reserve of deposit, it seems to be uneconomical. Any future discovery of new deposit in the region can help the Yar Qieh to become a favorable deposit.
