Semi-detailed exploration of the Yarm Qieh mica deposit, Khoy
After some studies throughout the province for mineral prospection, the semi-detailed mica exploration in the Yarm Qieh deposit of Khoy was started at 1994 in the Industries and Mines Organization of the Azarbaijan-e Gharbi. The exploration area is located 16 Km away from the NE of Khoy. The geomorphology of the area consists of Chelekhaneh Mountains that gradually changes to the Khoy Plain. The area has cold winters and temperate summers.
Geology of the area includes three rock type of metamorphic, sedimentary and igneous, ranging from Precambrian to Quaternary in age. The exploration activity was conducted in an area, 0.43 Km2, through geological-mineral assessment and determination of suitable zone for soil removal, trenching and drilling. At whole more than 23000 cubic meters soil was removed to expose three mineral lenses. 1:500 mineral-geological map was prepared for these lenses. 23 samples were taken from trenches for petrology and chemical analyses. Also 9 samples were taken that each one was 30 Kg. After mixing, a unified sample (100 kg) was sent to the GSI for ore processing test. Exiting mica is phlogopite formed in the pyroxenite rock. Estimated reserve is 51919 tons mineral.
