Preliminary exploration of the Sorayan area
Diverse geological features and rock exposures in the South Khorasan Province has a lot of attractions for explorational operations. The Sorayan mineral prospection project that was assigned to the Pichab Kavosh Consulting Engineers by Industries and Mines Organization of South Khorasan Province includes a small area of the region that has high potential of metallic and non-metallic mineralizations on the base of preliminary data.
The study area includes these geological sheets Aysek, Ferdows, Robat-e Khushab, Sharqanj, Deyhuk, Sehchangi and Zenughan. Executed activities include prospection, geological mapping and sampling from alterations, geochemical study, data processing and data interpretation. Geological survey was done in 10000 square kilometers area. Several favorable zones were identified. 1:25000 geological mapping was done for 570 square kilometers area.
Considering geological, geochemical and explorational findings, the whole extent of the Boshruyeh 1:250000 quadrangle and adjacent region have high mineral potential. Number and diversity of indications were so high that made it possible to introduce a metallogenic province in the area. It is necessary to continue the mineral exploration in more detail especially in the western portion of the region.
Productive parent magma, probably diorite in composition, is the source of various volcanic, sub-volcanic and pyroclastic rocks in the region. There are a lot of field evidence of copper, lead and zinc mineralization in the region. The igneous rock series is dacite-andesite. Mineral potential exist for Cu, Zn, Pb, Mo, Sb, Au and Ag.
The Lut Metallogenic Belt is a zone with repeated posit Eocene magmatism and a large mineralization zone from northern portions of the Ferdows Quadrangle to southern portions of the Sehchangi Quadrangle.
Vein type mineralization is important in this zone and includes Cu and Cu-Pb-Zn mineralization with associated elements of Sb, Mo, Au and Ag. Non-metallic mineralization mostly includes industrial soils. It is suggested to analyze samples for PGEs that may occurred in the sulfide phase in economic values.
