   Abstract
  
   Contract of semi-detailed mineral exploration in Qaen was signed between Industries and Mines Organization of South Khorasan and Zarnab Ekteshaf Consulting Engineers in 2005 (Contract No. 1031/85/2544). An important section of the contract was assigned to geochemical exploration and preparation of geological maps of 6 selected zones including Gorazan. Gorazan Exploration Zone about 11.5 km2 is located at SE of Qaen.
   Preparation of 1:5000-scale geological maps and geochemical exploration utilizing stream sediments, heavy minerals and mineralized samples were carried out.
   Gorzan zone is in the Flysch Zone of E Iran and its main rock units are
   - Cretaceous peridotite - Serpentinite complex
   - Sedimentary rocks (flysch deposits) including Paleocene-Eocene limestone, shale and sandstone
   - Mafic-acidic volcanic rocks including dacite, andesite, tuff, basalt and oligo-miocene basal conglomerate
   - Plio-quaternary consolidated-loose deposits
    Listvenite (silcic, silcic-carbonate), iron oxide and argillic alterations are found in the study area. The alterations are associated with listvenitic peridotite rocks and flysch deposits.
   For geological and mineralogical studies, 7 samples including 1 for ICP analysis, 1 for XRD, 1 for XRF, 1 for study of polished sections and 3 for petrographic studies were collected.
   Regarding the rock units of the study area, exploration was performed on reserves associated with ophiolite complex. Magnesite, huntite and asbestos indices were found, but they had no economic value.
   During the field survey, some indices including blue agate were found in the form of veins in listvenite zones, peridotite rocks and flysch. They may have economic value but further exploration is suggested.
   The most important index was a white feldspar body at NW of the area.
   Faults of the study area are in Rud-e-Shur fault termination. Three trends are mainly seen among them:
   1- NW-SE trending faults; they are the most abundant faults in the area. They cut all Paleocene-Quaternary units, so their activities date back to Paleocene-Quaternary.
   2- N-S trending faults
   3- NE-SW trending faults
   The last two groups cut all the units too, but a very few faults with NE-SW trend are tensional.
   For geochemical exploration in Gorazan, 63 geochemical samples (size: -60, +80 mesh) and 24 heavy mineral samples (size: -20 mesh) were collected. Also, 56 samples of stream sediments (-80#), 24 heavy mineral samples (-20#), 11 mineralized samples were taken. Data processing and map drawing were performed for all the test results of these samples.
