The area that is 18km2 wide is located at the southeast of Ahar and west of Noqrouz village.
A alkali granite body has intruded within the Eocene volcanic rocks and caused a widespread alteration at the northern and northeastern parts. Gold mineralization has occurred in the fractures cutting the body due to silicic fluids.
In the Safi Khanlou district, there are four silicic veins with the length between 250 and 450m. They are five meters thick.
Based on analyses results, the gold content in the veins varies between 0.007 to 4.68ppm. The veins have considerable silver. The main gold bearing zones are restricted to the fault intersections, quartz crystals and argillic rims.
