Database for earthquakes of Iran:
-Earthquake is a natural phenomenon that occurs frequently. Loss of lives, houses, offices, educational, and business centers occur during an earthquake. Our country has a high risk of earthquake, and has been subjected to the consequences of this natural disaster. To encounter with the destructive effects of this phenomenon on people’s life, fundamental plans have to be used on study of seismicity of the country. Using the related science and technology helps us to reduce damage resulting from earthquakes.
The National Geosciences Database of Iran has started to develop a database for earthquakes of Iran. Data on thousands of earthquakes occurred in Iran with different magnitudes have been gathered from historical and instrumental sources, and are represented in this data bank. These data may be used for recognition of active faults, fault zones, seismic hazard zonation, understanding of seismic sources, and so on. Seismicity of any region may be studied through analysis of these data. Enormous number of destructive earthquakes in Iran calls for urgent development of such data bank.
