Flood Hazards of Kazemroud Riv
Flood Hazards of Kazemroud River

  Page 1

Head branch of Kazemroud River is located in 1000 meters heights south of Abbassabad. This river after exiting from high dip mountainous area (around of Mashelabad) arrives to beach area. Takroud river also before exiting from mountainous area joints with Kazemroud river. This river after passing from Sarlakan-Palang Kala- Pasandeh-e-Olya- Pasandeh-e-Sofla and new towns goes to Caspian Sea in 300 meters west of Abbassabad.
Kazemroud River after entering to beach area of Caspian approximately shows meander river geomorphological features. But this river in 1 Km distance of from south of Abbassabad shows a River-Valley river.
Morphological features of Kazemroud include a narrow river bed that confined from both side by river terraces. Height of this terrace is not equal everywhere. This terrace in down stream has 2-4 meters height whereas in up stream it has 6-7 meters. Materials of Terraces are a mixture of Aeolian (Loess) and fine grained alluvium. Cohesion of these materials is very low and thus they are completely in debris form.
Because of site position and seasonal changes, narrow river bed of Kazemroud River, shows different widths. In general minimum width of river bed is between 6-12 meters.
There is no sign of mountainous flash flood in the beach area of Kazemroud River.
Terraces with 2-4 meters height that constructed residential houses and access roads in top of them are limit of 20 years recurrence period flood area. Thus construction in this area is completely forbidden. Also walls with 6-7 meters height can be count as limit of 100 years recurrence period flood area.
Kazemroud River experienced so many floods that major one's was in 1350, 1356, 1378, 1381 and 1382 years . Floodwater of 1342 was the most devastating floods of Kazemroud.
Vulnerable area of Kazemroud river in 2/4 Km length is located between south of Abbassabad and Kenareh road bridge. Southern limit of Vulnerable area is water source of Pasandeh-e-Olya village and it's northen limit is Kenareh road.
Kazemroud river after entering to beach area of Caspian, approximately shows meander river geomorphological features. But this river in 1 Km distance of from south of Abbassabad shows a River-Valley river.
