Geochemical survey in the 1:100000 sheet of Takestan

The study area is located between 49 30'-50 degrees E and 36-36 30' N. the 1:100000 sheet of Takestan includes four 1:50000 sheets, Takestan, Kuhin, Qazvin and Soltanabad. It belongs to the Qazvin Province in the West Central Alborz.
The area consists of a northern mountainous zone containing Eocene volcanic rocks that shows intensive alteration. The highest pick is Sefidkuh (2368 m). The southern portion of the area involves the fertile plains of Takestan and Qazvin that are 1200 m a.s.l. .
The area is located in the Southern Alborz and includes a thick succession of Eocene volcanics and Neogene continental sediments. The oldest rocks units are the Jurassic Shemshak Formation and Cretaceous limestones with a faulted boundary.
Geochemical survey was conducted by collecting 286 stream sediment samples. The samples were collected from the stream beds using a 80 mesh sieve. Each sample was 150 gr.
After analyzing the samples and interpretation of data, several anomalies were identified with attention to other parameters such as alteration, mineralization, faulting and know mines. The field checking step was done by collection of 34 heavy mineral samples, one sample per 10 Sq. Km. The report includes the identified anomalies and the explanation of whole survey procedure.
