Minerals Exploration Project in Southern Khorasan, March 2001
Birjand, located in southern Khorasan, is at longitude 59°- 59° 30' E and latitude 32° 30' - 33° N.
In this area, late Cretaceous- Neogene igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rock units were exposed.
555 geochemical samples were collected and analysis of 20 elements including Co, Cr, Ni, Ti, Mn, Sr, Ba, Au, Fe, As, Sb, Bi, Hg, W, Cu, Pb, Mo, Sn, Ag, Zn were done. Analysis accuracy was measured, using Thompson control diagram and calculating relative error. Data processing was performed with the help of softwares. Statistical parameters of raw data were calculated, and homogeneous lithological groups were separated and normalized to median values in order to obtain elements enrichment indices. Then, obtained enrichment indices were normalized. By using mono- and multivariate statistics, calculation of correlation coefficient, cluster and factor analysis, data analysis and study on outlier values were performed. Mono-variable maps were drawn, using network estimation for enrichment indices (33 sheets). Also, anomalous areas were identified based on factor analysis and geochemical data analysis. 10 areas were introduced as final anomalous areas. At last, anomaly modeling was performed based on compatibility with typical deposits in order to help future exploration.
