The Alamut mine is located 79km away from northeast of Qazvin, in southern flank of Alamut Mountains. Lithology of the area includes thick layers of Barut formation, pink-green micaceous shales and dolomite interbeddings with chert nodules. Southward, Eocene lava covered the Barut Formation.
Copper mineralization has occurred in dolomite of Barut. Chalcopyrite, bornite, pyrite and galena grains disseminated within the rock, furthermore the host rock contains silica veinlets. Neogene conglomerate is another mineralized unit. Eocene lava is mainly of andesite composition, which has malachite.
Two tunnels was bored perpendicular to layering of conglomerate. The mineralization is of hydrothermal type related to plutonism. There are five exposures of mineralization, three ones in dolomite and two ones in conglomerate. The veins within dolomite are 1m thick, 50m long and 30m wide. Total reserve of the mine is 13500tons. Copper grade is high and gold amounts to 1ppm.
