Preliminary mineral mapping in the 1:100000 sheet of Chahargonbad using GIS

In this study we try to use the effective factors in identification of mineral occurrences and location of mineral indications to prepare the mineral potential map of the Chahargonbad zone. Chahargonbad is the first selected area within the Orumiyeh-Dokhtar zone that is studied systematically for porphyry copper mineralization. We compiled petrology, tectonics, geochemistry, airborne geophysics and remote sensing data for this. At first, the required data were digitized and prepared. Topography data were obtained from four 1:50000 sheets including Sefteh, Semneh, Rastaq and Tangu. Other data includes the geological map of Chahargonbad, structural data and mineral distribution layers. Remote sensing, geophysical and geochemical data were also added to the dataset.
To produce the mineral potential map of porphyry copper deposit in this area, we applied two methods of fuzzy logic and weight of evidence. By these methods, the probability of mineralization in the sheet was determined. The observed trends for higher classes that define maximum probability generally correlate in two maps produced by two methods.
