Ardebil Geotourism Atlas
Ardebil is in northwestern Iran and covers about 1% of its area. It is bounded on north by Aras River, Dasht-e-Moqan and Balharud in Azerbaijan, on east by Talesh and Baqroo mountains in Gilan, on south by Zanjan mountains and valleys and on west by East Azarbaijan.
Ardebil is exposed to three main weather currents which create different geographical features. “Mediterranean Current” with mild nature affects Ardebil from west. It loses most of its moisture in West Azarbaijan and regulates temperature and moisture when enters Ardebil.
Mentioned current is the origin of snow- and rainfall in Iran. “Siberian and Central Asia” current with cold and dry nature enters Ardebil from north and northeast, flows over Caspian Sea and absorbs its vapor.
