Geographical situation
Gilan province holds a total area of 14709 km.It is surrounded by Caspian Sea and Azarbaijan-e- Gharbi, Mazandaran and Zanjan provinces. Gilan province is situated in the northern flank of Alborz range and southern shore of Caspian Sea. It is climate, there fore, is mild with average annual precipitation of 1500-2000 mm. Anzali marsh, which is 30 km long, and 3 km wide is a suitable biological site for migrating birds, shedding fish seeds and fish breeding. Thanks to high precipitation and humidity, vegetation in form of dense forests and vast grasslands is quite considerable in this province. The people of this province are originally from “Gil”. Gilan is named after ”Gil people”. Language is Gilak, which is a Persian dialect. The main activity of people is agriculture. Rice is the main agricultural product. Various mineral, foods, textile… constitutes other economic resources of this province.
